Closer (Insert Play on Words)

Welcome to the Closer (Insert Play on Words) blog post, where we throw up the middle finger to all blogs who try to be witty with their Closer titles. That includes myself for referencing that terrible "Closing Time" song a week ago. Fuck you MDS! OK, here's a question for you. If Mariano Rivera and Joakim Soria were on a plane, would they be able to hijack that sucker with their Cutters? Too early for a 9/11 joke? Bad taste? C'mon. We're talking about the most overrated and volatile position in fantasy baseball. We have to put up a wall of hostility to guard ourselves against these heartbreakers. You can't blame me, I drafted Trevor Hoffman and Chad Qualls last season. Make the jump for plenty of Closer hate with a little love towards the end.

"Yo MDS, if you extrapolate my 15 HR in September, I'll hit 90 HR in 2011!"

The Top 100 overall fantasy baseballers have finally arrived, complete with old school notes. The ranks have been adjusted since I released my Top 300 for the Draft Guide. My ranks change on a daily basis, you'll just have to get used to it. They are Closer-free because I'm not chasing Saves before Round 10. Make the jump for the Top 100 Corporate Ladder.

Updated: Outfield

Written by Andrew on .

The 2011 Outfield Rankings and Projections have been updated. Sad news for those who wear CarGo pants, Ryan Braun took over as king of the Outfield. Ron Roenicke's run happy ways have given Braun the edge over Carlos Gonzalez. We had a lot of movement, some updated projections, a few added players (Vladi, Fukudome, Gomes, Bourjos, Belt, Bernadina, Cust), but one thing remained the same; Jay Gibbons is the worst Outfielder you could possibly draft. Of all the updated rankings and projections, the Outfield experienced the most change.

Your 2011 Fantasy Baseball Draft Guide is now live. There's plenty of content available now, but more will be streaming in as time passes. Doesn't Mat Latos look great as our camouflaged poster boy?

2011 RP Rankings and Projections

The least valuable and reliable position in all of fantasy baseball, the Closer. That is to say outside of leagues that reward style points. The mustaches are the best among the Relievers. These rankings are comprised using player projections, injury status/history and job security. Our number one Closer was almost a Starting Pitcher this season. Neftali Feliz and the rest of our furlipped heroes are after the jump.

Corporate Ladder: Top 100 Starting Pitchers. It's roto season here at MDS headquarters. The rankings are now geared for Yahoo! style rostisserie settings (Innings cap). Strikeouts per Nine essentially replace Strikeouts. Use the metric scoring if you're ranking for head-to-head or roto formats where Innings Pitched are not capped. After the jump, your Top 100 Starting Pitchers.

Updated: Third Base

Written by Andrew on .

The 2011 Third Base Rankings and Projections have been updated. Not much has changed. I added two HR to Jose Bautista's total. He's up to 43 now, oh baby! The biggest issue here is valuing Mark Reynolds' HR/SB total versus Martin Prado's AVG. The projections are there, rank 'em how you choose.

Updated: Shortstop

Written by Andrew on .

The 2011 Shortstop Rankings and Projections have been updated. The TTI metric scoring has confirmed what we all knew, Jimmy Rollins is overrated. Why Shane Victorino is not leading off in Philly is beyond me. In other Shortstop news, the the Medellín Cartel is taking over the position. A few handsome payoffs led to me smuggling the Escobar Brothers into the Top Ten. What can I say, even the Million Dollar Sleeper has a price. Plus they threatened to kidnap Virgil. I had to do it.

Updated: Second Base

Written by Andrew on .

The 2011 Second Base Rankings and Projections have been updated. I have officially declared Ryan Raburn Top Ten material at the position. Virgil and I are throwing a party to celebrate the occasion. If you don't like Ryan Raburn, your name will not be on the guest list. Jason Donald is one of these anti-Raybites; he was taken out of the rankings and replaced by Orlando Cabrera. Jed Lowrie's At Bats were reduced after Zack Morris Theo Espstein declared Marco Scutaro, "our shortstop". The TangoTiger metric score says I was wrong about Chase Utley outproducing Robinson Cano if he remains healthy all season. Hmmmmmm.
