MDS captured on Podcast

Written by Andrew on .

You know the end of the world is coming when MDS gets asked to do an interview for a podcast. I'm thinking the Mayans were onto something... if you add up all the numerical values in million_dollar_sleeper and multiply them by Virgil's yearly salary its equals Dec 21, 2012. If you want someone to blame, its Keith n Abi over at Fantasy555.com. Keith runs the show there and Abi works at Sirius and 90.3 FM in NYC. It was a fun little phone call. Check out the podcasts, real good stuff. They're fun, interesting and they swear so you know they're not holding anything back. My kinda guys. no comments

Gearing Up for IDP Leagues

Written by Andrew on .

MDS has joined his first IDP league. IDP or Individual Defensive Players replace the traditional team defenses used in standard formats. I've avoided em for awhile now b/c shutdown corners are avoided, negating their value, and star D-Lineman get double teamed in the trenches. It just doesn't seem right, but there's no way I'm turning down the opportunity to stick it to Behrens after the beating he handed me in a hellacious NL only league. So while brushing up on some IDP philosophies and rankings, I decided to get some outside help and inside info from Roto Experts' IDP master, Antonio D'Arcangelis. Note: you'll have to register at Roto Experts to see the philosophies link, its quick n painless. Do It, Do It

a few back n forth emails provided these nuggets from Antonio:
Basically, you want MLBs in 4-3s, DE/OLB guys eligible at DL (Suggs sometimes is listed at LB, but he's got great value at DL, as does Kampman), SS on bad defenses, talented-but=aging CBs who have lost a step and draw throws, but have learned to tackle in their elder years and can still take it to the house.
home from the bar... a little tipsy..do you need a response by tomorrow? lol
There's a schism within the idp community on whether top-tier DL should come before LB because of the scarcity of top DL, but I view Top DL like I view top qbs -- the top guys come off the board so quickly there's no point reaching. With LB (the Rbs of IDP), however, sometimes I reach for guys like Willis.
After a few emails I got the feeling Antonio wasn't brushing me off with generic answers so I went overboard and scared him off with about 10 random, scatter brained IDP questions. His most recent column at Roto Experts answered some of my questions and the rest I'll be able to get to a little later after my IDP draft. Big thanks to Antonio for taking the time to answer my inquiries. no comments

MDS vs the World

Written by Andrew on .

The odds are being stacked against me my friends. I feel like Vince McMahon just made me the first wrestler to enter the ring at the Royal Rumble, except Andy Behrens is playing the role of Vinny Mac and Paul Bourdett, the Pick Up Artist, is his enforcer. As you can see in the pic, the divisions were changed around. A fourth manager should be in the South and East division before being placed into the West. This is because Behrens changed em around. He had this to say:
"I'll switch MDS to your division, Paul, since I've already knocked him off once. We should take turns."
ohhhhh, thems is fightin words. I also happened to notice, the other two managers in my division have the best profiles (besides mine) in the league at 74% and 71%. Neither of these other guys' leagues impress me so that's no thing, but the line in the sand has been drawn. This is the Roto Arcade Invitational, but it might as well be called the Million Dollar Bounty league. Pride isn't a form of money, but there is definitely a price on my head. Plus this will be my first IDP league so I've had to contact an un-named (for a reason) fantasy expert for some advice regarding these defensive players and how they should be drafted. I'll be posting that stuff sooner or later... Some ppl might have complained about this, but MDS welcomes it.

The Hazean has a Best Fantasy Football Team Name Contest for the month of August running until September 13th and a MDS inspired team name has been nominated. I already wrote my acceptance speech... now I just have to win. Vote Now!

"Palmer? I Hardly Know Her" is a blatant rip off of my Doug Fister named team

Pre Ranks Cont.

Written by Andrew on .

I'm not gonna sit here and explain why I ranked everyone where I did. There are some finer points I'd like to make.
Quickly, just soak in how much a cheat sheet can change in the matter of a few days time. Keep on adjusting up to draft time.
This is a PPR league so possession WRs (welker n mason) and RBs who catch passes (mjd n s.jax) have additional value. RBs who do not catch passes (turner n jacobs) and WRs who get big yards off fewer receptions (berrian n hester) get the shaft. We also use a flex spot for WR/RB/TE so I'm looking to acquire elite talent at RB n WR before I take a QB.
This list is not in a Top 100 Players format. For the most part the list is segregated by tiers of players at the same position who have relative value. So this list does not say I would draft Housh before TO. I'd wait til someone took TO then I'd start targeting Housh. You cannot have a static list heading into a draft. All you need to do is tier players values, and go with the flow of the draft using common sense. Some ppl struggle with the common sense part or maybe its that MDS' common sense equates to the avg joe's moment of clarity. Hmmm, I like that, lets go with that.
The way this list is set up I'm almost guaranteeing myself I'll never end up with a high tiered QB or TE. Whoever thinks Tom Brady is going to throw 50 TDs should be slapped. That injury last season was a blessing to anyone who waits for the later tiered QBs. The highly o-ranked QBs are ranked so b/c public leaguers only start 50 positional players compared to the 84 in my league. Ive been trying to catch the McNabb, Schaub n Palmer band wagons; failing to doing so with McNabb n Schaub and ending up with Palmer in 3 of 3 drafts. Risky Business indeed... but I'm a grab some nice shades, a cigarette and dance in my underwear for good luck. The TE position is so deep this year you can get away with being the last team to draft one. It's nice to be able to wait 2 Rds after the 13th team takes a TE. Your bench will be ready to handle the onslaught of injuries coming your way.
Some players might have been left off the list, I copied my pre-ranks from eye onto a note pad file so the first list missed some players... Lee Evans... whoops. Also the last few players are just scrubs and they're some unlisted guys I'd prolly take over them. Handcuffs for your valuable RB would get a slight boost. Good luck Westbroken owners, grab some ibuprofen for the Sunday afternoon Doubtful/Probable/Game Time Decisions. That McCoy handcuff is getting rather expensive. Other players I'm purposely avoiding in this format or all formats: Turner, Jacobs, Portis, Marshall, Roy Williams, Edwards, Addai, Parker, Lewis, Benson, Willis, Julius, Winslow, Crabtree and NE RBs not named Faulk

FavreFingrDeathPunch

Written by Andrew on .

"Pai Mei taught you the five point palm-exploding heart technique?"

nope, he taught MDS the FavreFingrDeathPunch. Now I didn't get to draft Brett Favre, he wasn't available in the last round; but maybe in time, my team can be called the Five Point Palmer-Exploding Elbow Technique. Either way, I think my team is ready to bust some kung foolery on some unsuspecting Moe Foes. This is from the infamous MDS vs MOE 14 team ppr league that includes some great hand selected competition. As you can see, MDS likes the wait-n-see approach with kickers. I can drop Hillis or Stokely when we're closer to week 1. So with that in mind...

would you please "Rate My Team" on a scale from 1-10? ......... NOT!!!!

MDS vs Evans

Written by Andrew on .

What can I tell you about Brad Evans that you don't already know? He loves Billy Butler, Pierre Thomas and anybody who played for the Illinois Fighting Illini. He may like to partake in an adult beverage or four, may or may not have been castrated (technical term is vasectomy) and is one of the most entertaining writers yahoo has to offer. MDS also believes he is the best football guru of the bunch, no small feat. So when the invite came to join his 2008 Bring the Noise Blog League, I was excited to say the least. 16 team, flex spot added, ppr (0.75 pts) league here I come!

Brad and I were next to each other during the draft and basically tormented each other by robbing the other's queue list. MDS boldly predicted many of Evans picks except for Wes Welker and Pierre Thomas, those were nice. MDS led the standings for a good chunk of the year, but Evans team was basically unstoppable down the stretch. He took the #1 seed from me and then steam rolled his way thru the playoffs eventually pinning the Million Dollar Man in the championship. Now even tho some ppl (just me actually) were demanding an asterisk to be placed next to Brad's win for using a steel chair, MDS eventually relented and gave Brad his props. but just for all the Million Dollar Maniacs out there, this is what made MDS a little upset. The very week LT was deemed healthy n fit to play out the season, Brad pulled a Snake job on another manager (who had no chance at the playoffs) acquiring Eddie Royal for Darren Sproles. MDS cried foul as this smelled fishy, almost as if it was a bribe for an invite next year. MDS may have been paranoid or just spreading his patented propaganda to protect his team, but either way, MDS Conspiracy Theory 101 was in full effect. Brad's response:

"Hey, he offered me the trade. Being a frightened LT owner he really wanted Sproles.... Royal has produced marginally since Marshall ’s return and is still battling residual ankle soreness."
residual ankle soreness.... ill remember that one Brad....

In the end, Brad was the big winner and I'm sure he would have won whether or not he had Eddie Money on his team. But MDS needs an excuse/reason for failure or else I might have to strip myself of the self-proclaimed fantasy expert title I worked so hard for.... At least I was introduced to Xobai who is a great manager and who has since joined my regular group elite renegade private leaguers. The Big Noise couldn't be silenced, but I'll definitely be looking forward to a rematch. This time with Virgil in my corner as co-manager.

Congrats Brad! no comments

But Ma......

Ahhhh i was all set to ignore this guy, but if you must know... I stuffed him inside a box of cracker jacks with the likes of morris, choice, bush, buckhalter and the other morris. what? just cuz I'm not ignoring him doesn't mean ill ever pick him. hes just a notch above dante and this... ughhhh, wheres Chuck Cecil when ya need him?

You'll never see players get completely snubbed by fantasy experts. They have to be professional or they'll be attacked by ravenous homers, but that doesn't mean you have to do the same. believe me, players get snubbed on their personal lists. I'd bet money BFun doesn't take his Big Board with him into the draft room. Hes prolly got a secret list with Housh, Hasselbeck and Steve Largent near the top. Don't be afraid to cast aside complete losers like Cedric Benson and let someone else degrade their team with them. Willis McGahee, Julius Jones, Roy Williams among others will never see the light of a Million Dollar roster this year. I'm not buying the ADP, or anything near it, and I know someone else will. Adios Amigos

...and yes, if i was in a league that drafted 1,961 players i still wouldnt draft Matt Leinart. what a chode no comments
