New England Patriots Q&A Session

Where do we start with the Patriots? Bill Belichick’s dubious injury reports? Tom Brady’s mullet? Ochocinco’s stanky leg? Let’s begin with the offensive foundation, the o-line. New England has one of the best offensive lines in the game, no team pass blocks better than the Pats, and Belichick continued to add reinforcements to the trenches by drafting Nate Soldier (Rd 1 pick 17) and Marcus Cannon (talented, but medical issues pushed him down to Rd 5). Tom Brady will have plenty of time to dissect defenses and the run game will have room to operate. Because of the strong play from the o-line (and Tom Brady) the Patriots provide us with many fantasy assets. To help us get a better feel for how the offense will operate we got in touch with a fellow Bloguin site, Foxboro Blog. Let’s go.

Don's Do Not Trust List: Tight Ends

Weekly flareups of GTD are no laughing matter, practice safe drafting

With draft season well underway, it’s time for your favorite physical therapist to chime in on which players I’m leery of drafting due to the risk of injury and which players should be fine heading into this season. That’s right kids, it’s the official Don’s Do Not Trust List ®: Fantasy Football Draft Edition (DDNTL). I’ve got a number of players to discuss, some of whom I will endorse and some of whom will earn a spot on this dreaded list. God has granted me a wonderful combination of medical expertise and fantasy prowess, and if baseball season was any indication you should pay close attention to my words here. There are far too many injuries and players to address everyone, so I’m sticking with players found in most leagues. If there’s a player in particular I didn’t address that you’d like some advice on, or if you just want to thank me profusely for being your fantasy draft guardian angel, please feel free to drop me a line in the comments section or send me an email. I’ll help a brother (or sister) out.

This final edition will focus on Tight Ends (QB can be found here, RB here, WR here). I’ll preface this piece by saying that ALL TE are at great risk for injury. They battle in the trenches blocking with the big boys yet also run routes and catch passes (often over the middle), where their large frames make them perfect targets to get lit up by a defenders. So while I endorse a number of guys here, don’t blame me when you’re breakout TE has a king-sized lineman roll onto his leg, shredding his knee. It happens. Don’t hate the player, hate the game. Let’s get after it!

Quarterback ADP Data

You will take their lives, but you can never take the fantasy community's Freeman!

With our composite QB rankings in and the Starbonell Station QB Preview podcast scheduled for Saturday at 7 PM Central I thought it'd be a nice time to talk Quarterback ADP numbers. We're comparing our rankings to Average Draft Position data from four sites: Yahoo, ESPN, Mock Draft Central and Fantasy Football Calculator. Some quarterbacks are overrated, some are underrated and some of these numbers are just funny. Let's do this.

Jacksonville Jaguars Q&A Session

Written by Andrew on .

Could this be the last time we see MJD in the same space as Arian Foster?

The Jaguars offensive line is tailored to the run and that’s exactly what the team does, and does well. Jacksonville was third in team rushing attempts last season (512 attempts), averaging 4.7 yards per carry. Only the Bears had fewer passing attempts and that’s because half the team’s passing plays resulted in sacks. Jacksonville played host to a snooze fest this offseason; they lost Mike Sims-Walker and brought in Matt Turk, a punter. In terms of fantasy football, the Jaguars draft was also boring. Blaine Gabbert will be useful only in leagues that use “holding a clipboard” as a stat and owning a receiver named Shorts is never an option. To get a better feel for the team and help us mine for hidden gems we contacted a fellow Bloguin site, The Jaggernaut, for some of that inside info people are always talking about. And go.

Quarterback Rankings Updated

Written by Andrew on .

Starbonell's QB ranks are in, just in time for Thursday's Starbonell Station QB Preview. Unfortunately, due to technical difficulties, the show recorded only audio clips. The good news is we've rescheduled for Saturday, you can stay busy by undressing our rankings with your eyes. The updated ranks include a new No. 1 QB, Michael Vick has fallen from the top spot. I'd give props to Starbs for helping me take Vick down, but he buried Ryan Fitzpatrick so I'm withholding all pleasantries. Other changes: Eli passes up Stafford, Tarvaris Jackson rises, Alex Smith falls and Jason Campbell is in the receiving end of some strange love.

Beef the Series is back and we're kicking off the season with a battle of the Quarterbacks. Episode one: Ben Roethlisberger versus Matt Ryan. What's beef you may ask? Well in the immortal words of the Notorious B.I.G., "Beef is when I see you. Guaranteed to be in I.C.U.". The Sons of Roto composite QB rankings are out and there is some beef brewing between Eric Yeomans and Andrew in regards to the rankings of Ben Roethlisberger and Matt Ryan. There is only one way to settle this: Beef the Series. Both Eric and Andrew will present their cases and a reader's poll will decided the outcome. Things get heated after the break.

Don's Do Not Draft List: Wide Receivers

This edition will focus on Wide Receivers, the TE edition will follow in the coming weeks (QB can be found here, RB found here, TE here). I’ll preface this piece by saying that ALL WR are at great risk for injury. Down after down these guys explode with bursts of speed, tight cuts and leaping grabs, going from zero to full acceleration in a matter of moments. These quick bursts of activity coupled with the danger of getting jacked up going over the middle leads to a high propensity for injury. So while I endorse a number of players here, don’t blame me when your favorite WR Diva gets his bell rung by a James Harrison headshot. It happens. Don’t hate the player, hate the game. Let’s get after it!
