Check it, direct it. Let's begin. Starbonell Station is back and yours truly will play the role of guest emcee. We'll rap about Stephen Strasburg, Mike Stanton and we'll review the block buster movie, Good Burger. OK, there won't be any Good Burger action, but you don't want to miss the live radio show anyway.

Good Vibrations: SP

We're pouring over some nerd stats courtesy of Fangraphs. Let's dig around for some of the Starting Pitchers who have experienced some good luck through the first two months of the season. We're looking at Batting Average of Balls in Play, the base hits that get past the defense and Home Run per Fly Ball Percentage, the percentage of fly balls that go over the fence. There are pitchers who have the skills to excel in these statistical categories, but for the most part, these stats are considered luck based. Tape up your eye wear, grab a glass of ovaltine and let's do some homework. no comments

MLB Notepad

mike-stanton

No intro, nothing fancy, just some good old fantasy baseball notes....

The Marlins are expected to call up Mike Stanton early next week. Color me skeptical here. I've been burned by Alex Gordon in the past and I've seen many more burned by another AA MVP, Brandon Wood. Wood once hit .321 with 43 HR (100 extra base hits) in AA ball. He struck out at a 24% clip that year and Stanton is striking out at a 28% rate (51 K in 180 AB). It really bothers me that he wasn't promoted to AAA. Is it fair to shrug off Stanton because of past AA all star struggles? Of course not. At least Stanton has a decent eye (40 walks, 51 strike outs). I think his ceiling this year is Adam Dunn-lite numbers. The floor is Brandon Wood. With all the hype, I'd look to sell on him now before he strikes out 30 times in his first 80 at bats. no comments

the Turkey

I hate Kevin Gregg (how's that for an opener?). I'm willing to bet many more people hate Gregg after his five walk, Blown Save implosion tonight. Just check out the above Inning Summary, his line is too disgusting for me to type it. I can't do it. No. Gregg has lost his closing job two years in a row (in Chicago and Florida) and he's looking for the turkey. Even before tonight his May numbers were terrible (5.11 ERA, 1.95 WHIP, 2 BS). I don't think my solar powered calculator can crunch the huge numbers from tonight at this time of day. I might need a gas powered calculator for his performance, that's how bad it was. no comments

Judgement Day is Coming

Written by MDS on .

Sunday is a big day for the Million Dollar Sleeper. No, it's not because it's Memorial Day Eve or because every Sunday is a holiday for me in which I celebrate by doing absolutely nothing. Sunday is a big because we find out what the hell is going to happen with Grady Sizemore. As a three time Sizemore owner, Sunday is huge. no comments

MDS Classics

wheresubaldo

I've been a little busy writing up player/team profiles for The Fantasy Football Guide so I thought I would repost something I wrote back in January. This gives people something to read (again) and lets me revel in my own greatness. For the record, I selected Ubaldo in 2 of my 5 drafts and traded for him in two other leagues. Four shares of Ubaldo is a great thing. no comments

Alexei Heats Up, Al Gore Takes Credit

Something tells me Al Gore would be a great fantasy sports guru, or at least an entertaining one. I'm sure Harold Reynolds, Steve Phillips and the creators of the Verducci and Mass Effect would welcome Al with open arms as he introduced his revolutionary book, "A Convenient Truth: The Planetary Emergency of Global Warming and What We Can Do About It in Fantasy Sports". I'm sure the "inventor of the internet" would fit in well with the rest of these wankers. I'd love to have Al in a H2H league and see his Sunday night win turn into a Monday morning loss after Yahoo did a recount (preferably from a Marlins/Rays interleague game stat correction). OK, enough about Al Gore, let's talk about some hitters who are heating up with the weather. no comments

Trade Embargo

embargo

A very questionable trade has been made in the Blog Wars league. A trade that is so bad, I have legislated a Trade Embargo against a-mak15. This is a partial prohibition of commerce and trade. This act is a strong diplomatic measure made to isolate the afore mentioned rip-off artist. A-mak15 joins Cuba, North Korea, Georgia, Pakistan and the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus in the list of countries under embargo. No one in the fantasy community shall trade with a-mak15 unless it is a one sided affair that cripples his team. No one. Spread the word my fellow fantasy baseballers.

Public Apology.... Kind of

I'd like to take this time to apologize to Matt Capps. Back in March, I listed Capps as the Closer to most likely to lose his job. I should have known his ugly numbers from 2009 were inflated from a .370 BABIP and not an eroding skill set. Sure he had the elbow issues last year, but he didn't hit the DL. I guess his injury woes were a tad overblown. But this is what happens when you draft a guy and he stomps on your heart. I really hated Matt Capps last year; it's true, it's damn true. no comments

Go with Strasburg, if you want to Live

Written by MDS on .

thelordandsavior

Stephen Strasburg has been nicknamed Jesus for a reason... well for many reasons. Nyjer Morgan, dubbed him Jesus because of his stuff: “When you see this kid live, the first thing that is going to come out of your mouth is 'Jeeee-sus'..... I have never seen stuff like that. Everybody in here has played the game and nobody has seen stuff like this.” Fantasy managers call him Jesus because they expect him to carry their team on his back, perform miracles and die for their fantasy sins. I'm sure somewhere near the D.C. area, there are cults forming and there could be mass suicides if Strasburg isn't called up soon. Even MDS is ready to drink the Kool-Aid.
