Most fantasy writers have no problem recommending players you should go after, but do they really pick up all the players they hype up? I’ll answer for them: no. Here on “Star’s Shares,” we’ll discuss players yours truly has personally invested in throughout the three leagues I’m in. If a player is good enough to sit on one of my teams, then surely they are worthy of your attention.

Making a shit-ton of moves at this point of the season doesn’t necessarily reek of desperation. I’m all about maximizing stats across all positions, so if a player isn’t getting the job done (talking to you Ike “Watch My Career Crash” Davis), you have to sit/drop him and move on to the next one. Plus, if you make enough moves, you come across a long-term option who you can use the rest of the season... as long as you don’t drop him.

It was another busy week for your boy Stat Bundles. I made at least three moves in each of my leagues, so try to keep up as we plow through a variety a free agent fish in the sea.

Jose Fernandez Deserves Universal Ownership

Written by Mora Best on .

Coming into the year, Jose Fernandez was regarded as one of the top pitching prospects in baseball. To the amazement of many, the Marlins put him in the rotation to open the season following his domination of the South-Atlantic league last year (Single-A).

Many critics immediately claimed the Marlins would ruin his career by putting him a big league jersey this early. After compiling two initial good starts, he followed it up with two rough starts. In my fantasy league, he was dropped after his fourth start, sporting a 4.50 ERA.

While many of Fernandez's critics celebrated their predictions, I picked him up immediately after he cleared waivers in one of my leagues.  I needed a pitcher and felt that, at the very least, he would make a good streaming option at home against the Mets. Not only did he pitch well in that game, but he has been a stud since I added him, allowing only seven runs in his last four outings (with 25 strikeouts in 24 IP).

I went to Fangraphs to analyze his apparent found stability with my simple graph I like to call "Balling." It contains the following: GS, W, L, ERA, WHIP, BA, K/9, and SwStr%. If a pitcher for any amount of time is in the top 30 of this graph, I consider them to be "balling." With a WHIP of 1.00, ERA of 2.25, a stingy .192 BAA, and a 9.45 K/9, the Marlins pathetic lineup is the only thing holding this kid back!

Don't get me wrong, I understand that the Marlins aren't going to be one of the better teams this year and that his run support will be on the very low-end. However, that is the beautiful thing about a young ace; he can control an entire game's outcome with the performance of his arm.

Currently 2-2, Jose Fernandez is not going away. He is beyond the point of ever getting sent down again and deserves to be owned in all fantasy leagues (he's sitting on just 48-percent of Yahoo! leagues).

It was a busy week for yours truly. Injuries and slow starts forced my strong, sinewy hand. Fortunately, the waiver wire yielded some solid investments in all three of my leagues.

Shield your eyes! Clay Buchholz is trying to pull wool over them!

His numbers so far in 2013 have been stellar, but if you own any shares of Buchholz, the time has come to sell.

Finally, Matt Cain Sucks

Written by Starbonell on .

Cain Ain’t Able

For years Matt Cain has defied logic. Despite being a flyball pitcher with a mediocre batted ball profile and mediocre swing-and-miss ability, Cain has been one of the most reliable aces in fantasy baseball for a few years now. I don’t think I’ve ever owned him in a league, mostly because the price was too high considering the unimpressive strikeout numbers and the fact that his advanced stats were just begging for a serious regression. He’s managed to defy the expectation of stat nerds everywhere, but the other cleat has officially dropped on Matt Cain, and it’s time to wonder if he will ever be a fantasy ace again.

Josh Ham' 'N Egger

I own zero shares of Josh Hamilton, which shouldn’t come as much of a surprise since I left him outside my top 10 in the OF edition of “Tiers, Not Fears.” Yet while I didn’t expect him to provide ample draft day value, I didn’t think he’d be this awful.

Is Josh Hamilton a lost cause? Or will God’s favorite addict pull off another improbable comeback?

This edition of “Star’s Shares” features more pick-ups than ever, thanks to the injury-bug making its rounds throughout the league. This week, we’ll explain why Yuniesky Betancourt isn’t just on a random hot streak, while also espousing the virtues of a couple of OFs filling in for banged-up players. Come and get it bitches.

“Star’s Shares” poster boy Daniel Nava continues to do serious work at the dish, while Luis Jimenez (who got a shout in last week’s post) has been handling major-league pitching well and is still out there in a lot of deep leagues. What kind of ill recommendations will your boy Big Poppa Pockets be making this week? Make the jump and find out:
