Most fantasy writers have no problem recommending players you should go after, but do they really pick up all the players they hype up? I’ll answer for them: no. Here on “Star’s Shares,” we’ll discuss players yours truly has personally invested in throughout the three leagues I’m in. If a player is good enough to sit on one of my teams, then surely they are worthy of your attention.

It was a busy week for yours truly. Injuries and slow starts forced my strong, sinewy hand. Fortunately, the waiver wire yielded some solid investments in all three of my leagues.

Shield your eyes! Clay Buchholz is trying to pull wool over them!

His numbers so far in 2013 have been stellar, but if you own any shares of Buchholz, the time has come to sell.

Finally, Matt Cain Sucks

Cain Ain’t Able

For years Matt Cain has defied logic. Despite being a flyball pitcher with a mediocre batted ball profile and mediocre swing-and-miss ability, Cain has been one of the most reliable aces in fantasy baseball for a few years now. I don’t think I’ve ever owned him in a league, mostly because the price was too high considering the unimpressive strikeout numbers and the fact that his advanced stats were just begging for a serious regression. He’s managed to defy the expectation of stat nerds everywhere, but the other cleat has officially dropped on Matt Cain, and it’s time to wonder if he will ever be a fantasy ace again.

Josh Ham' 'N Egger

I own zero shares of Josh Hamilton, which shouldn’t come as much of a surprise since I left him outside my top 10 in the OF edition of “Tiers, Not Fears.” Yet while I didn’t expect him to provide ample draft day value, I didn’t think he’d be this awful.

Is Josh Hamilton a lost cause? Or will God’s favorite addict pull off another improbable comeback?

This edition of “Star’s Shares” features more pick-ups than ever, thanks to the injury-bug making its rounds throughout the league. This week, we’ll explain why Yuniesky Betancourt isn’t just on a random hot streak, while also espousing the virtues of a couple of OFs filling in for banged-up players. Come and get it bitches.

Got Mo’ Pick-ups Than Dodge

“Star’s Shares” poster boy Daniel Nava continues to do serious work at the dish, while Luis Jimenez (who got a shout in last week’s post) has been handling major-league pitching well and is still out there in a lot of deep leagues. What kind of ill recommendations will your boy Big Poppa Pockets be making this week? Make the jump and find out:

Matt Adams, A.J. Pollock, Justin Maxwell, and Daniel Nava are just a few of the names who have proven to be immediately useful in fantasy leagues following a shout out in last week’s “Star’s Shares.” Pretty damn great for our first in-season edition of this program.

This week’s episode features fewer pickups, but that’s only because a) it’s still early in the season and b) my teams don’t have too many holes (I’m nice like that). Still, the show must go on and there are still a couple of sly free agent moves to be made that can have a big impact on your fantasy season. On a related note, my penis had a “big impact” on your mom’s vagina.

Stubbed Hamel-Toe

This time of the year, fantasy writers usually instruct owners not to panic about star players off to slow starts (sans the overtly obvious declining dudes like Roy Halladay). In this case, however, there is serious reason to panic if you are a Cole Hamels owner. The time has come to sell, so throw on a throwback Willy Loman jersey and start taking that ass door-to-door, because it’s time to fetch a return while the value is still high.

Admittedly, I didn’t get too crazy on the free agent moves this week since I usually like to give my draft day investments more than a week’s worth of games before dropping them. Yet I still made a couple moves in an effort to aid my already stacked rosters.
