Fantasy Foolsball Notes

Written by Andrew on .

The Sleeper Podcast with Brad Evans has been pushed back to Wednesday, that's not set in stone either. Brad and BFun will be hosting a fantasy football camp in Portland today (note the poser doing the tough guy stance for the pic). A fantasy football camp hosted by those two and sponsored by a beer company sounds like fun. After the jump you can find updated rankings, draft results/notes from an 18 team auction draft that went down last night.

New Poll

Written by Andrew on .

tony-romo

The sidebar QB poll is officially closed. I'm somewhat surprised to see Tony Romo (73%) smash Tom Brady (20%) and Matt Schaub (7%). I voted for Romo, but thought Tom Brady would have won. I recently moved Tom ahead of Schaub in my QB ranks after seeing the Brady Bunch in action. That receiving corps in New England looks deadly. Randy Moss is motivated, Welker is Wolverine's brother from another mother, Edelman looks great, Brandon Tate is a deep league sleeper, Taylor Price isn't bad, Aaron Hernandez is impressing people and they took another TE (Rob Gronkowski) ahead of him in the draft this year. I need to stop this Tom Brady propaganda before I adjust my rankings again.

New poll for the TE position: Vernon Davis, Jermichael Finley and Jason Witten are separated by only six picks according to MockDraftCentral. Who should be taken first from this group?

Sleeper Podcast

mdp

The Million Dollar Podcast is back! It's been awhile since I've hosted a show, what better time than now. I plan on doing at least two shows before the season starts. The first will cover "sleepers" and we'll be welcoming the boisterous Brad Evans. The term "sleeper" can mean many different things to many different people. The Noise and I will be professing our love for those who are undervalued, under the radar and under appreciated. Basically anyone who can return a great deal of value at their ADP or average auction price. We'll try to keep the bromances for LeSean McCoy and Arian Foster at tolerable levels. The list of players that I would like to discuss is much too long for a one hour show, so I'm going to omit a few players who were put under the spotlight by BFun and Brad in the following videos:

Michael Bush, Arian Foster

Laurence Maroney, Ben Roethlisberger, Mike Williams, Heath Miller

I'll likely make references to Brad's positional ranks which can be found here

I have the LIVE show tentatively scheduled for Monday at 7:30 PM central

starbs

Starbs is back from his podcast mini-hiatus, which reminds me that I actually have a podcast show that seems to be locked in solitary confinement. I need to do steal a spoon from the cafeteria and break out of the joint. Anyway, be sure to catch the LIVE show tomorrow (Wednesday) at 7:30 PM central time. Sounds like we'll be talking Quarterbacks in preparation for the upcoming football season.

Auction Draft Tips and Strategies

Written by Andrew on .

auction_hammer

Every auction draft different, each one is unique. There is no universal protocol you should use to auction draft. I don't even go into these drafts with dollar values assigned to players. All you need is your player rankings and a loose set of guidelines. The following piece is not the ten commandments of auction drafting, these are just some things you should keep in mind while assembling your make believe teams.

Controversy Abound

Written by Andrew on .

I'm no stranger to controversy. Most (not all) of my comments around the web are intended to spark emotions, ignite fires and create arguments. Outside of this place, you cannot take much of what I say seriously. Today I told someone Damian Williams will outscore Jeremy Maclin in a league that uses Return Yards. I love to spread propaganda, but before this post turns into "my escapades in smear campaigns" I need to get back to what I was about to hop into. I want to get into some players whom I have mixed feelings for. Some people love 'em, some hate 'em. Me? Well, make the jump and see what I'm thinking at this point in time. I'm guessing the comments section will get heated, which I enjoy.

Norv-West Air

The mini vacation was refreshing. I tooled around the lake on a paddle boat, tried some fishing and spent $44 on LeSean McCoy in an auction draft (good thing it was Behrens' money, not mine). Yes, even in the remote woods of Northern Wisconsin, MDS can find ways to draft football teams. Perfect timing too, because the Kevin Youkilis/Carlos Santana news would have had me sobbing for days. Instead of sulking over Youkilis and all the other injuries that plagued my baseball teams this week, I figured it would be better to talk about one of my favorite coaches, Norval Eugene Turner, the track history he has with his running backs and Ryan Mathews' potential for the 2010 season.

Notes/Love/Hate

Written by Andrew on .

I'll be heading up north tomorrow, I'll be back Sunday (at the latest). Fresh air, fishing and quiet solitude are calling my name. Everyone should embrace their roots and get their caveman on once in awhile. Being surrounded by concrete and noise pollution is a terrible way to live. The timing is perfect... the baseball trade deadline has passed and I don't have any football drafts for at least 3-4 weeks. There will be no theme for this post, we'll just hop right into some notes.

Updated Ranks

Written by Andrew on .

Earlier I broke out the tiered rankings. For now, I'm going with the simple list. Again, these rankings straddle the divide between standard and PPR leagues (0.50 points per reception). Some people thought I was high on LeSean McCoy when I recently paid $39 for him in a PPR league... just wait until you see how high I have him ranked. PPR monster: LeSean McCoy, $55 RB for a $40 price tag. The lists should be easy to follow, the players are broken into groups of 16.
